What Tradify does well
Tradify is a digital clipboard for a trade business, and a good one. It covers quoting with templates and price lists, invoicing that syncs with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks, scheduling with Google Calendar, timesheets, job costing, purchase orders, and gas and electrical certificates. It sends text reminders for appointments, quotes and unpaid invoices, and it can collect enquiries through online forms, email and a simple website it builds for you.
Where it stops, by design
Tradify starts when an enquiry is written down. Its own features page, which we read on 22 October 2026, lists nothing for phone calls: no business number, no call log, nothing for a call you miss. So the homeowner who rang while you were in a loft never becomes an enquiry in Tradify, because the call never reached it.
For most plumbers that is where the new work is. Homeowners ring; they do not fill in forms when the boiler is down.

How to choose
- If your calls are answered and the mess is in the paperwork, Tradify is a sound choice.
- If you are losing jobs before they ever become paperwork, because the phone rings out on the tools, start with the call. Slate's quotes, invoices and diary come with it, so you may not need a second app at all.
- Try either on real work. Slate's trial is 14 days, from the day you start.
Straight answers
- Does Tradify do missed-call text back?
- Not on its own features page, read on 22 October 2026: it lists text reminders for appointments, quotes and invoices, and enquiry forms, but nothing for phone calls.
- Can I use Slate OS alongside Tradify?
- Yes. Slate's office line goes on your listings and catches the calls; you can carry on quoting where you like. Slate's own quotes and invoices are there too, on the job the call became, if you would rather keep it in one place.
- What does Slate OS cost?
- £249 a month, one plan. The first 25 firms pay £199 a month for as long as they stay. You get 14 days free from the day you start, and if you are not happy within 14 days of your first payment, you message us and we refund it in full.
